We recently partnered with the Homeless Coalition to provide free financial coaching to individuals and families. One participant, a 26-year-old woman with four children, contacted one of our five FiCEP certified financial coaches. She was having difficulty finding work due to having young children, plus she owed debts that, if not paid, would result in jail time. We identified that her biggest goal was to keep her family together and to find a place to live, so we first connected her with a local employment agency that offered remote work solutions. We then connected her with VITA tax services since she was due a refund and those funds would allow her to pay her past debts. Most importantly, we reminded her of what's possible and guided her one step at a time.
