In 2017, we ran a new type of mortgage promotion where a member closing on a loan could choose the promotional dollars to apply against their closing costs or they could double the promotional value if they chose to have those dollars donated to an eligible charity of the member’s choice. One member, a single mother of five, worked with us for the purchase of her new home using the 3% down payment loan product. While the member certainly could have used the promotional dollars for herself to reduce her closing costs, she was so moved by the service she received and our credit union’s mission that she chose the charity promotional option to help a cause important to her.
