In conjunction with multiple other state leagues, The Wisconsin Credit Union League hosts an annual community outreach day on Indigenous Peoples' Day. This is an opportunity for Wisconsin's credit unions to increase their visibility statewide and showcase how they serve their communities throughout the year.
Check out the frequently asked questions and resources below.
What is CU Community Day?
This is the second CU Community Day in Wisconsin. Credit unions from around the state are encouraged to give back to their community in ways that matter to them. This is a great way to highlight the sixth and seventh Cooperative Principles: Cooperation Among Cooperatives and Concern for the Community.
Do I need to register to participate?
We are collecting information about participating credit unions. At the time of registration, we only need your credit union information & a contact person. In September, a very brief questionnaire will be available for participating credit unions to complete. We will also have a very brief post-event questionnaire for credit unions to complete. We will use this information to share the aggregated numbers of volunteers, hours, etc.
My credit union already does community service on Indigenous Peoples’ Day/Columbus Day.
That’s awesome! We’d love to have your credit union be part of the statewide program! Just share the event details and numbers with us to be included.
My credit union uses Indigenous Peoples’ Day/Columbus Day for staff training day. Can we still participate?
YES! That’s the best opportunity to do something for your community. With everyone gathered in one place you can leverage your team to either do something on-site that can be distributed to the community (such as tie blankets, birthday cake baskets, etc.) or you can take some time out of the day to go to a location and volunteer.
We are a small credit union. How can we participate?
This is a great opportunity to partner with other small credit unions in your chapter, or focus your efforts on one specific community group. Ask your board of directors or the families of your staff to also participate. No volunteer efforts are too small to make a difference! Get inspired by checking out our list of participation ideas in the Resources section below.
Is there a cost to participating in CU Community Day?
There is no cost to register, and other costs are entirely up to your credit union. You can use funds to make direct donations to community partners, purchase supplies for organizations, or include your members to help donate to causes in your community.
What else does my credit union need to do on CU Community Day?
Take pictures, pictures, and more pictures! We would love to see pictures of your credit union out and about! Be sure to share the pictures of what your credit union is doing on (1) your own social media with The League tagged, (2) use the hashtag #CUCommunityDay, and/or (3) share with The League via email--simply contact League VP of Communications Sammy Dennis! We will also send a brief post-event questionnaire to help us aggregate information on the event's success.
What other state leagues participate?
Kicked off by the Illinois Credit Union League in 2019, CU Kind Day is celebrated in Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The Minnesota Credit Union Network hosts a similar program each Indigenous Peoples' Day called CU Forward. The Wisconsin Credit Union League has joined the fold with its CU Community Day, and many other state leagues are looking to join in the hopes to make this a nationwide event!
