Governor Evers Signs COVID-19 Stimulus Package

On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Evers signed Wisconsin Act 185 in order to provide support for Wisconsinites impacted by COVID-19. 

The League played a key role in crafting a message and building a coalition of trade associations to advocate for the inclusion of various policies, one specifically to make the tax treatment of Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness consistent with the CARES Act.

Safer at Home Order Extended

Yesterday, Governor Evers extended Wisconsin's Safer-At-Home from April 24th to May 26th.

COVID-19 Conversations with State and Federal Officials

3rd Congressional District Small Business Telephone Town Hall
Last week, Congressman Ron Kind (D- La Crosse) and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Secretary/CEO Missy Hughes hosted a Small Business Telephone Town Hall with small business owners in Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District.

Congressman Kind shared that Congress is working to additionally fund the Paycheck Protection Program in a future stimulus package.

On the state level, Secretary Hughes shared WEDC's small business loan program which offers grants of up to $20,000 to small businesses with less than 20 employees. The funds will be distributed by community development financial institutions (CDFIs).

8th Congressional District Lenders Conference Call
Tuesday, Congressman Mike Gallagher (R- Green Bay) hosted a call with credit unions and other local lenders in Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District. The call featured Congressman Patrick McHenry (R- North Carolina), a Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee and an influential legislator for all credit unions. Both Congressmen Gallagher and McHenry discussed the implementation of the PPP, with McHenry highlighting the exceptional work credit unions are doing to provide for their members and communities.

Congressman Kind Letter to Secretary Mnuchin

Congressman Kind (D- La Crosse) on Tuesday sent a letter to Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin in part requesting that Treasury Department fix the obstacles faced by small and rural lenders in accessing the SBA, and specifically the Paycheck Protection Program.

Over the past month, The League has been in regular conversations with our colleagues in other states and at national associations to discuss questions and concerns related to the COVID-19 crisis and recovery. 

Our weekly - and at times daily - conversations and collaborations within the CUNA-league system, NASCUS (who represents state-chartered credit unions and regulators), and with various other system partners allows The League to better answer questions and share examples or resources of value.
