Today kicks off my first full week as President & CEO of The League. To say this is an honor is an understatement.
For over 90 years, The League has met the changing needs of members as credit unions have evolved to compete, grow, and serve while the economic, political, and regulatory environment has transformed around you.
Our core purpose—then and today—has been to promote The Credit Union Difference and provide you with what you need to operate and improve your members’ financial well-being in ways that other financial institutions can’t or won’t. Whether through our compliance services, education and training, development support, Foundation scholarships, or advocacy efforts – our success is empowering and propelling your success.
And, through the tremendous leadership of The League’s current and former board members, our organization is positioned to do just that.
As I take the helm, The League will continue to adapt and evolve– as you expect us to. We’ll stay true to our purpose and core values of excellence, honesty and integrity, risk-taking, balance, and unity. Our work will be deliberate, strategic, forthright, and passionate.
Credit union pioneer Alphonse Desjardins stated, “Let it never be forgotten that a credit union is, above all else, an association of people, not dollars.”
The League is, like our credit unions, an organization deeply rooted in the People Helping People philosophy. With that said, this year I hope to meet with each credit union to better understand your experiences, your challenges, your priorities, and your ambitions.
This is not a job so much as a greater purpose inspired by your good deeds. The numbers on your call report represent second chances, dreams achieved, heartaches compassionately handled, challenges overcome, and helping hands extended. Your impact inspires our drive.
It’s a privilege to share your stories and I sincerely look forward to further supporting your work and efforts toward financial well-being for all.
