Last month, The Foundation's Board of Directors met to award funds to Wisconsin's credit unions through their Credit Union Development and REAL Solutions grants. A record $80,000 was distributed to help recipients better serve their communities. Here they are!

To reach a broader audience with more consumer-friendly lingo in mind, The League's REAL Solutions Program is now The Difference, though there's no difference in our mission!

Political advocacy allows credit unions to provide financial support that can help elect and keep credit union friendly elected officials in office. Contributions to campaigns allow Activists to build rapport with candidates and key elected officials, show support for the individuals that champion our priorities, and importantly give our allies running for office the leg up they need to win election. 

It's important to stop and think about what you truly value. A lot of people have never done this. It's important to write the list because that helps you prioritize these things that deserve your energy and attention. So at a very basic level, a bucket list forces you to think about what’s important and reminds you to take steps towards those things.

Our "a little different, a little UNconventional" Virtual Convention & Expo this September 7-10 will feature a variety of high-profile, industry-leading speakers from across the country. We recently checked in with a few League staff members to see who they're excited to hear from.

This week, the Wisconsin State Legislature will wrap up their work on the state's 2021-2023 budget. The bill then heads to Governor Evers' desk for him to apply line-item vetoes and sign it into law or veto the entire bill.

Whether it's giving back, responding to COVID-19, awarding scholarships, or supporting financial literacy (and so much more), here's how Wisconsin's credit unions supported their members and communities in April.

During National Credit Union Youth Month in April, Wisconsin credit unions are helping young people navigate the world of money and finances. A great example is Educators Credit Union, which works with high schools in southeastern Wisconsin through an innovative program called Reality Check Days.

The League's SVP of Advocacy Sarah Wainscott testified in front of the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Revenue in support of SB 19, a bill that will better empower credit unions to prevent the financial exploitation of vulnerable adults.

On April 15, Gov. Tony Evers honored eight individuals and five organizations as recipients of the 2020 Governor’s Financial Literacy Awards in a virtual ceremony. The recipients were honored for their efforts in helping Wisconsinites build their financial literacy and capability skills. 7 Rivers Region Chapter of Credit Unions, Royal Credit Union, Educators Credit Union, and Marine Credit Union Foundation were among the recipients.

Next week, the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Revenue will hold a public hearing on Senate Bill 19, relating to financial exploitation of vulnerable adults.

As Gov. Tony Evers proclaims April as Financial Literacy and Capability Month and as National Credit Union Youth Month, Wisconsin’s credit unions are spotlighting their work with members, schools and community groups to promote and foster financial well-being.

The League is excited to introduce a new series that rounds up all the ways credit unions support their members and communities across Wisconsin! The Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation recently awarded $6,000 in CUNA Management School Scholarships to three recipients, including Nilsa Gebert (FOCUS Credit Union), Lois Pluff (Sheboygan Area Credit Union), and Chris Trost (Glacier Hills Credit Union).

While Wisconsin was bested by Minnesota in the Border Battle fundraising competition earlier this month, Activists were able to raise $9,375, 129% of Wisconsin’s goal for this event!

In March, The Wisconsin Credit Union Foundation's Board of Directors approved renaming its Development Education (DE) Scholarship the Pat Wesenberg Development Education (DE) Scholarship in memory of Pat Wesenberg, the former President of Simplicity Credit Union and longtime advocate for The Credit Union Movement who passed away in February after an extended illness.
