In conjunction with multiple other state leagues, The Wisconsin Credit Union League will host its second annual community outreach day on Indigenous Peoples' Day, October 14. CU Community Day is an opportunity for Wisconsin's credit unions to increase their visibility statewide and showcase how they serve their communities throughout the year, either as an extension of their regular, community-focused efforts or as a special, standalone event.
Looking for ideas on how your credit union can take part and make an impact? Consider one of the ideas listed below--all address The National Credit Union Foundation's 12 Development Issues which serve as barriers to financial health and wellness. We've also underscored ways to combat food insecurity as part of our mission to collectively address this issue in Wisconsin and how to honor and support Indigenous People within the state:
Addressing Food Insecurity
- Volunteer at a local food pantry.
- Tend a local community garden.
- Hold a food drive and collect donations from staff, board members, and credit union members to donate to a food bank.
- Contact local schools to pay off school lunch debts.
- Host a donation matching campaign with an organization combatting food insecurity.
Honoring & Supporting Indigenous People
